Madinah rewards slowness. Pray in the mosque, greet the Prophet ﷺ briefly and calmly, and spend the rest of your days walking the city of the Hijrah with your children.

Du'as

Adab & etiquette

• •Give salam facing the noble chamber, then step aside — do not linger, raise hands, or block the queue.
• •Ask Allah, not the Prophet ﷺ — send salawat upon him and direct your requests to Allah alone.
• •Enter with the right foot and say the du'a for entering a mosque; leave with the left foot.
• •Pray two rak'ahs of tahiyyat al-masjid before sitting down, unless it is a prohibited time.
• •Keep your voice low. Historic mosques are living places of worship, not tourist attractions.
• •Silence your phone, and never walk in front of someone who is praying.
• •Ask before photographing people, and avoid filming during prayer rows.
• •Leave the place cleaner than you found it — take your litter with you.

With kids

• 👶Tell the story of the place before you arrive — children remember what they can picture.
• 👶Give each child one 'mission': find the mihrab, count the domes, spot the oldest stone.
• 👶Plan short visits — 45 focused minutes beat three exhausted hours.
• 👶Carry water, snacks and a small bag for shoes; heat and marble floors tire little feet fast.
• 👶Finish with one shared du'a so the trip ends as worship, not just sightseeing.

Avoid this

• ⚠️Do not touch, kiss or rub walls, tombs or pillars seeking blessing — this is not from the Sunnah.
• ⚠️Do not direct any du'a or request to the dead; du'a is for Allah alone.
• ⚠️Avoid crowding, pushing or arguing — the reward of the journey is lost in bad manners.
• ⚠️Don't believe every story a guide tells; check unusual claims with a trusted scholar or source.
